Question: What are the stages of an employee lifecycle?
Answer: Attract, Integrate, Perform, Retain and Transition – and likely repeat!
Question: Are HR trailblazers connected to resources that can help improve the employee lifecycle experience?
I’m always on the lookout for companies and services that can help HR make a great IMPACT on employee and organizational performance. I invite you to consider the following nine companies and their services. They all can help HR rock on one level or another.
Training is integral to the ability to integrate employees new to their jobs, improve their performance, retain them, and help them transition to new roles. Angle Media offers a web-based learning management system http://var/www/vhosts/christinemcleod.ca/everydayleader.ca.yourwebtraining.com. Your Web Training makes it easy to add training content, offer collaboration forums, customize the look, run reports, and generally track what’s happening. This frees up HR to spend much more time understanding the training needs and striving to ensure effective outcomes.
Attracting and retaining employees requires a good fit between the company culture and the candidate’s or employee’s “fit” with the culture. Many factors contribute to both parties making the right decision. ClearFit offers cloud-based software and decision tools to help companies and job seekers assess “fit” and experience for jobs. IDC Canada named ClearFit one of its Ten to Watch for 2011.
Transitions can mean moves to new positions within a company, but can also mean transitions out, sometimes due to termination or layoff. All employees need support through transitions; Fresh Transition offers web-based transition support that integrates employers, job seekers, and career-transition support providers.
Cooperative sharing, what an intriguing concept to help attract and retain good staff! Companies join the Pooling People network, and then borrow or lend the services of qualified staff, either remotely or on site. You can keep skilled staff even during downturns in demand, and the staff knows you’re being creative in striving to retain them. Win-win.
Rypple’s social performance platforms helps teams share goals, recognize great work, and help each other improve. Supportive, high-performing teams contribute mightily to employees successfully integrating, performing, and being retained. Facebook uses Rypple and Facebook knows social!
Skype? Sure! The interview is tightly linked to attracting candidates. The tried and true telephone interview is time- and cost-effective for both candidates and recruiters, but with a Skype video call you can also see and gauge the subtle cues provide by body language and facial expressions. That visual component also helps to assess the level of engagement on both sides of the screen. In addition, on a skype call you can utlize chat and send files so you can ask candidates questions in real time and see their answers… or ask them to write a short paragraph to assess writing, grammar, gauge situational leadership and accurate recent examples of service.
The Tiipz tool helps companies create easy-to-use and fun-to-create “micropinions” to engage their customers and assess their interests. Just think how HR trailblazers could work with this tool to engage employees, supporting both performance and retention goals. In addition, because this young startup company targets its service to market research applications, consider how you could also build a collaborative network with your market research counterparts, as part of a team to brainstorm potential internal applications. In addition, employers can attach rewards to thank the employee for their engagement. Answer a certain number of Tiipz questions, get access to rewards. Answer more questions, get more rewards!
Almost anything that can be communicated or taught in person can now be delivered on smartphones. Which means content designed for mobile platforms can impact the entire employee lifecycle, from attract to transition. However we’ve all experienced the frustration of trying to view content intended for a desktop monitor on a small smartphone screen. Train by Cell offers a mobile design platform as well as support services. Tools like this are essential for effective mobile content delivery!
Jing eliminates a lot of phone and email time. Take a picture or make a short video of what you see on your computer screen. Share it instantly via web, email, IM, Twitter or your blog. A picture is worth a thousand words… jing is DEFINITELY worth its weight in gold.
What other specialized tools and services do you use? How do you use them? Let’s keep the conversation going here. We’ll also have this very conversation going at Impact99 in Squamish and Toronto this Fall. In fact, in many cases the founders of these companies will be on deck to show you the tools firsthand and coach you on how to best leverage their power within your workplace!
